The winter months bring a special concern to us. Winter snowfall along with
with the plowing of snow can often hide fire hydrants under a large amount of snow
making them impossible to find quickly. In the event of a fire, firefighters have to
locate and shovel out fire hydrants before hooking up to them.
Precious time is lost. Don’t let your neighborhood hydrant remain “undercover”.
You may have noticed that our hydrants have become more noticable we have been
adding reflective markers to help locate your hydrants in ANY weather condition
behind parked cars, trash, vegetation and more! We have joined together with
Hy-Viz Inc (hyviz.com) to make sure your hydrants are seen ALL YEAR LONG!
We are asking that you help us by keeping the fire hydrant closest to your residence or business clear of snow. We need a 3 foot clearance on all sides. When shoveling snow
be aware of vehicle traffic. Do not stand in the street and be careful not to slip and fall out into the roadway. Also, keep hydrants free of overgrowth (grass and weeds) the rest of the year.
The Best way to Adopt a Hydrant and to really help out is to adopted a hydrant by simply
filling out an "adoption form" & getting it to us (by email, fax dropping it off snail mail etc..)
For doing this, you will receive a "hydrant adoption certificate" along with our sincere thanks!
Citizens and civic groups (Boy Scouts, etc) can “adopt” a hydrant or hydrants in their neighborhood. To adopt-a-hydrant, please call or email us!
